Ger 201, 202 Second Year German I and II 4, 4
These courses systematically review grammar and introduce the geography, culture, and history of Germany through reading texts of moderate difficulty. The study includes the states, major cities, modes of travel, and customs of Germany. Students are required to participate in Language Laboratory experiences including use of audio tapes and computer programs. Prerequisite: Ger 102 First Year German II or equivalent. Fall, Spring
This course is an English language study of important individual Americans of German descent and the cultural contributions of German-American groups such as the Germans from Russia, the Hutterites, the Amanas, and the Amish.
Ger 311 Readings in German Literature 2
This study in German emphasizes vocabulary, culture, conversational proficiency, and reading representative German Literature including works by Thoma, Borchert, Rinser, and Böll. Prerequisite: Ger 202 Second Year German II or equivalent. Fall
Ger 312 Readings in German Culture 2
This study in German culture and history further develops reading and conversational ability. Specific people discussed are Luther, Dürer, Wagner, and Ludwig II. The course also includes travel, education, sports, television, and other aspects of modern life in Germany. Prerequisite: Ger 202 Second Year German or equivalent. Spring
Students build a business vocabulary, with an emphasis on the German business climate, social customs in business, the European Economic Community and its influence on business, and business practice. Prerequisite: Ger 202 Second Year German II or equivalent.
Ger 411 Composition and Conversation I 2
Students practice writing and speaking German. Various every day topics will be used as the central themes for writing paragraphs and conducting discussions. Prerequisite: Ger 202 Second Year German II or equivalent.
Ger 412 Composition and Conversation II 2
This course continues the emphasis on improving writing and speaking proficiency by having students write short essays and participate in class discussions. Prerequisite: Ger 411 Composition and Conversation I or consent of instructor.
Ger 494 Independent Study in German 1-3
A research project in German selected by the student and approved by the instructor. Prerequisite: 20 hours of German or equivalent.
Ger 499 Special Topics in German 1-3
A specialized study of some area of German culture, history, or literature. The topic or area selected by the students and approved by the instructor. Prerequisite: 16 hours of German or consent of the instructor.
