WHAT TO EXPECT AT SOAR
Freshman and First-Year Students
Freshman and first-year students attend an overnight orientation session designed to help each student make the transition to the university environment. During the two day session, each student will take DSU placement exams, get registered for Fall 2008 courses, and meet with DSU faculty and staff.
Transfer Students (students who have attended another university prior to entering DSU)
SOAR gives all transfer students an opportunity to meet with department chairs, schedule Fall 2008 classes, and learn about available campus resources. In order for department chairs to schedule you for the appropriate classes, you must provide us with a transcript in well advance of SOAR. For the SOAR session, an unofficial transcript is adequate but you will still need to provide an official certified transcript to the DSU registrar’s office.
Pre-register for courses
All new students must meet with an Academic Department Chair in order to register for courses. Due to the long distance, international students can pre-register for courses by completing the Fall 2008 Scheduling Request Form. Upon receipt of the completed form, students will be enrolled in courses that are most appropriate for their intended majors. Students can make changes to the schedule after they arrive on campus and meet face-to-face with their respective Academic Department Chair.
Housing
All SOAR materials, meals, and overnight accommodations are included in the student's $35 SOAR fee. Parents and other family members can participate at a cost of $25 per person which covers SOAR materials and meals. Information for parents and other family members is available upon request.
