Dave Moody
Head Coach
Last year's NDCAC Coach of the Year, Dave Moody has put together one
of the finest volleyball programs in the nation. His winning percentage
in the last six years is a testament to his abilities as a head coach.
Dave Moody enters his eleventh season as with a 241-104 record in ten
previous seasons and 177-39 in the last six years.
Moody graduated from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse with a bachelor
of science degree in health science and physical education in 1982 and
from Eastern Kentucky University with a master of science degree in sports
administration in 1990. He came to Dickinson State from Kentucky, where
he was an assistant coach under Dr. Geri Polvino at Eastern Kentucky in
Richmond.
Prior to serving at Eastern Kentucky, he spent eight years teaching and
coaching the sports of volleyball, basketball, track, tennis, soccer,
and football at three different schools in Wisconsin and Illinois.
Under Moody's leadership, the Blue Hawks have consistently raised their
level of play, finishing fifth in the NDCAC in 1990, fourth in 1991, third
in 1992, second in 1993 and 1994, and as undefeated conference champions
in 1995, when Moody received NDCAC Coach of the Year honors for the first
time. In 1996, Dickinson State advanced to the Great Plains Regional Tournament
as NDCAC Tournament champs. Last season, the Blue Hawks received their
highest pre-season ranking ever, third. Despite numerous injuries, the
team won the NDCAC in undefeated fashion for the fourth time in the last
five years. The Blue Hawks have not lost to a conference opponent in 48
straight matches.
The volleyball team has a proud academic tradition for which they have
been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)
for the past two seasons.
Moody currently holds the rank of tenured assistant professor of health
and physical education at Dickinson State and he also serves as head softball
coach. In addition to his duties at Dickinson State, Moody is past president
of the North Dakota Alliance for Health, Physical Education. He also officiates
high school volleyball and serves as a speaker and coach at clinics and
camps across the Midwest.
He and his wife, Kay, who serves as Dickinson State's assistant volleyball
coach, have three children, Nate, Ali, and Aanen.
